DENTAL IMPLANTS
WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS
A majority of adults have lost at least one tooth over their lifetime due to injury, trauma, decay, or gum disease. When a tooth is lost it can affect how a person chews. Each tooth plays an important role in the mouth. This is why, once a tooth is lost or needs to be extracted, it’s important to make sure it is replaced as to avoid future dental problems.
The preferred treatment option for tooth replacement is dental implants. If a tooth is decayed or damaged and cannot be restored, Dr. Dave may recommend an extraction. After the tooth is extracted the dental implant is placed directly into the jawbone to provide a secure fit. Once the implant is placed, the bone fuses to the titanium, creating a strong foundation for the implant. The titanium post works like a natural tooth root and can help preserve facial structure and prevent bone deterioration.
BENEFITS TO DENTAL IMPLANTS
Dental implants are beneficial because they look, function and feel like natural teeth. Dental implants help a person regain their ability to once again smile with confidence as well as regain the chewing ability that may have been lost with the lost teeth. They can also be used as an alternative to dentures, partials and bridges or used to add more support to partials or dentures.
Before implants, when teeth were lost, bridges, partials or dentures were the only option to replace those missing teeth. Although these restorations can help a person regain chewing capabilities and restore a smile, they aren’t as strong or natural looking and can be prone to decay. Dental implants have been found to last longer than the alternatives because the titanium material they are made of is strong and resistant to decay.
