DENTAL IMPLANTS

Dental implant procedures and technology have become much more common today and continue to increase in predictability and reliability. If you are missing a tooth, an implant is a very effective, long-term option to restore function or esthetics. Unlike dental bridges or partial dentures, an implant doesn’t rely on other teeth for its function.

To “place” an implant, a titanium post is surgically placed in the bone and a healing cap is placed on top. After 4-6 months of healing the implant is stable enough to have a crown placed on it. A simple (non-invasive) impression of the healing cap is taken and sent to a dental lab for manufacture. The permanent crown is received within 3-4 weeks and attached to the implant.

DENTAL CROWNS

A crown is simply a manufactured cover or “cap” for a damaged or decayed tooth that helps strengthen and protect the tooth from breaking. A crown is often needed when a tooth has had a fracture, a significant amount of decay, or is a molar that has had a root canal treatment. A crown can also be used to cover a discolored or misshapen tooth.

To place a crown, the tooth is first prepared by removing a small amount of the outer shell (enamel).

DENTAL BRIDGES

A missing tooth can cause a number of issues in the mouth. Existing teeth near the gap and on the opposing jaw often shift out of position, placing extra stress on both the teeth and the jaw. Teeth that have shifted out of position often become harder to clean, which also increases their risk for decay.

A dental bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth and helps maintain important function and esthetics in the mouth. A dental bridge consists of a manufactured tooth (or teeth) that is supported by the existing teeth on either side of the gap. Crowns are placed on the supporting teeth and the manufactured tooth is suspended between the two crowns.

DENTURES

Dentures are a tooth replacement option for patients who are missing multiple teeth. Full dentures are used to replace all teeth on the upper or lower jaw. Partial dentures are used when there are some natural teeth remaining that are healthy.

Conventional dentures fit directly over the gums. Implant-supported dentures, are supported by dental implants. Both types of dentures are removed and cleaned each night, and then placed back into your mouth the following morning.

Some individuals have suffered extensive damage to their teeth and gums due to disease, injury or other factors. Gray Oak Family Dental is committed to helping patients regain function of their entire mouth and improve overall oral health. As such, we are pleased to offer extensive, full- mouth restoration services which combine both restorative and esthetic dentistry techniques to achieve the desired results.

Full mouth restoration treatments vary based on an individual’s unique needs and goals. Patients will first meet with Dr. Dave Firmage for an oral examination to assess the current health and condition of the mouth, including teeth, gums and bite. He will then take time to understand and discuss your individual concerns and goals, and will work with you to create a custom treatment plan.

Full mouth restorations typically take multiple visits, but are well worth the investment once treatment is complete and function is restored. We will help you create a good home oral care routine to maintain the health and appearance of your new smile.
